Films by women

In 2007, Rona Murray and Roy Stafford ran an evening class entitled ‘Women on the Other Side’ at the National Media Museum in Bradford. Some of the materials from the course are collected here – see the category ‘Films by women ‘ on the sidebar. Because we are now running two blogs, some of the recent films by well-known female directors in France and the US are on The Case for Global Film. There are many excellent films by women in Asia, Africa and Latin America – but it is even more of a struggle for women in many countries outside Western Europe and North America to direct films and get them into distribution.

Our experience is that too many of these films tend to be overlooked, so we are keen to offer as much coverage as possible. We welcome any suggestions for new posts. Who are the directors we are missing?
